My friend Keats recommended this trilogy to me two months ago. At first, by seeing the cover, I thought it’s one boring book. Really, books should not be judged by their covers! This trilogy is one of the bestest books I’ve read!
It’s written by Suzzane Collins (I am not looking into anything as I typed her name, she’s marked into my heart right away!). Here’s how the books look like.

If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, or Twilight (not the movie, okay?), you will surely love this trilogy! Good plot! It has so many twists that would make you think of them at night and even hunt you in your dreams. Hahaha. Well, at least for me. I know that the books don’t seem to attract people because the covers are too simple, but really, you’ve got to read them first to know what exactly I’m talking about.
So to give you a little background of it, I cut some from Wikipedia for you to read.
The Hunger Games takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as Panem.
Panem is the nation that “rose out of the ashes” of what was previously North America. Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve poorer districts, with a thirteenth district destroyed in a past rebellion.
As punishment for [the thirteenth district's rebellion] against the Capitol, every year one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected at random and forced to participate in the Hunger Games, a televised event where the participants, or “tributes”, must fight to the death in a dangerous outdoor arena until only one remains.
Government control is a prominent theme throughout, as the Hunger Games is a form of control used by the Capitol to show their power over the districts and a punishment for rebelling against the Capitol in the past.
It’s very thrilling and has this kilig story too. The lead characters are Katniss, Peeta and Gale. Don’t worry, it’s different from that of Twilight’s love triangle. Hahahah. This one has this hhmm, I don’t know how to put it into words, basta super kilg factor that makes you want to read more and more and more kahit na it’s already 2am! Hahaha. I don’t want to spoil you so I’m gonna stop here. You can buy hard copies at National bookstores. Don’t try at Powerbooks and Fullybooked anymore, ubos na! Err.
My favorite part (sorry, I just have to share), is when Katniss sang Rue’s lullaby. I really cried!
Rue’s lullaby
Deep in the meadow, under the willow
A bed of grass, a soft green pillow
Lay down your head, and close your eyes
And when again they open, the sun will rise
Here it’s safe, here it’s warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.
Deep in the meadow, hidden far away
A cloak of leaves, a moonbeam ray
Forget your woes and let your troubles lay
And when again it’s morning, they’ll wash away
Here it’s safe, here it’s warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.
I’ve downloaded this song in an instant! You’ll just love it!
It makes me hear Katniss. It’s like she’s real. It’s such a magical feeling that books made you feel like their characters were real and that they really live somewhere in this world. I literally cried as I’ve closed the last page of the book. It’s like saying goodbye to a friend. But I’m gonna keep these books forever
I’ve got the hard copies already!
This will be on movies by 2012. I researched on who will portray the characters. I’m really nervous that they would not give judgment to it but you know, let’s just hope that the staffs are aware of what they’re doing or else.
Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen
FROM THIS:

I have a feeling she’ll do well. She can be turned from one innocent-looking girl to one super fierce fighter! The book describes her as having straight long black hair, which she normally pulls back into a long braid, olive skin, and gray eyes. She may not seem exactly like that but it’s too obvious that you can play with her and turn her into something you want. Can’t wait!
Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark

Okay. He’s so gwapo. This young child may be very familiar to you because he starred in the Little Manhattan and he’s really toooo cute! Peeta, as the book has described has ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead. During the audition, Suzzane Collins said pertaining to Josh and I quote: ““I was fortunate enough to be in the room with Gary Ross when Josh came in to audition. Three lines into the read I knew he’d be fantastic. Josh totally captured Peeta’s temperament, his sense of humor and his facility for language. I’m thrilled to have him aboard.”
Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne

Look familiar? Well because he’s Miley’s ex-boyfie for their movie The Last Song (which I didn’t watch, hahaha) But he’s hot, isn’t he?
“Katniss says that at 14, “Gale already looked like a man” And it is later mentioned he was over 6 feet tall. Similar to many people from The Seam, he has olive skin, straight black hair, and gray eyes.”
Let’s not judge but let’s expect. Hahaha. As the movie producer said: “Gale is a young man who uses words very sparingly, so the onus was on the actor we cast to capture him by showing, not telling. This was accomplished so beautifully in Suzanne’s writing, and Liam was able to translate it so naturally to the screen. At the same time, Gale’s journey across the three books transforms him, and Liam’s performance left no doubt that he would take us there. ”
I believe they know what they’re doing or else this trilogy will end up like the Twilight movie. Heee. Finger-crossed!
